Golf in the Region

With over 30 courses in the region you will be spoiled for choice. Palmares and Boavista are no more than a 5 minute drive away from the apartment. A number of other courses are within a 15/20 minute drive away, with the Vilamoura complex of courses around 30 minutes from the town.
The following is a short note on some of the more popular courses in the Western Algarve region.

Palmares - Meia Praia ( Lagos)

With views of the Bay of Lagos and the historic town, as well as the Monchique mountains to the north, Palmares has earned its reputation as one of the most scenic of all the Algarve courses. Palmares was designed by the renowned English golf architect , Frank Pennick , and the course uses its natural resources to maximum advantage.
Palmares is located 2km east of Lagos.
18 holes , Par 71.

Boavista Golf Lagos

This impressive 18 hole championship course, designed by Harold Swan, offers exceptional playing conditions as well as breathtaking views and spectacular scenery. The ocean is visible from most of the holes. Water comes into play on 5 holes. The course offers a number of tee options , providing varying challenges for all levels of golfers.
18 holes, Par 71

Penina Golf Club Portimao

Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, and opened in 1966, the Penina Championship course was the first golf course built in the Algarve.The course has hosted the Portugese Open on many occasions. 

Pro shop, Restaurant and Bar, Hotel. Driving range, Rental clubs, Trolleys Buggies available.

The Championship Course is 6439 metres long and is generally quite flat. Its set amongst mature trees and  shrubs, with each of the fairways lined with tall trees. 18 holes , Par 73

The Resort Course is a 9 hole par 35.It has a lot of the
characteristics of the Championship course, with flat,
tree lined fairways.

The Academy Course is a 9 hole , par 30 ‘executive ‘ course.


Parque da Floresta Golf Vale do Poco, Budens ( Vila do Bispo)

 The westernmost course in the Algarve. This course was designed by Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo. The course features a challenging layout set amid the rolling hills of the Costa Vincentina nature reserve. Greens : average difficulty, bentgrass. Fairways : Bermuda

Alto Golf Club Alvor/ Portimao

 The 6125 metre course was the last one designed by Sir Henry Cotton. It has gentle rolling fairways with scenic views of the Monchique mountains and the Algarve countryside with occasional glimpses of Lagos bay. It has five par 3s, eight par 4s and five par 5s.

Vilamoura Golf Club Vilamoura (Almancil)

The Vilamoura resort has five golf courses in total , which offer variety, value and challenge for every level of golfer.
The Old Course

The Old Course was inaugurated in 1969. It is laid over and around gentle sloping hills , with tree lined fairways . It poses quite a stern test.. Par 73
The par 72 Pinhal course opened in 1976. The front nine winds through umbrella pines , with the back nine being more open , with sea views. Not quite as severe as the Old course ( more forgiving for the average golfer ).
The Laguna course is set amongst dunes and water hazards which come into play on more than half the holes. Accuracy is needed here, as it is a real test of golfing skill. Par 72
This course opened in 2000. The course encompasses wooded areas and lakes. Par 72.
A new championship course designed by Arnold Palmer. Total distance 6560 metres. With 5/6 tees per hole, wide and undulating fairways, extensive water hazards and well positioned bunkers, the course rewards the ambitious shot-maker. Par 72.
